“My love affair with felting arose from a desire I had to find an unusual wrap for a special occasion. I had something unique in mind and so I searched for this ideal wrap in numerous stores but without any luck. At that point I decided that I would try my hand at creating the wrap that I imagined I wanted. But with my first attempt at hand-felting it turned out that I had created more than just the interesting and individual wrap that I desired.
Some time later I was involved in a fashion parade at Melbourne’s Crown Casino. And while wearing that same original wrap I was approached by many people asking where I had bought it from. After I had told these admirer’s that I had made the wrap myself I was flooded with requests for similar items. And it just seemed obvious that I had come up with something very special that I should pursue. I guess, it was a matter of being in the right place at the right time.
I am an artist first who uses many different mediums. I have developed a passion for the artistic use of natural fibres. A desire to build upon this has led me into taking courses in various areas like mosaics, ceramics, calligraphy, sewing and jewellery making.
Recently I opened my own shop in vibrant St Kilda, Melbourne. My main line is still felting wraps and scarves but I’ve added a line of jewellery and I’m working on a line of clothing too.”
